  • On this week's episode of Onboard Lifestyle we wake up to chaos. A 125' Westport megayacht worth $24M has a technical problem and wreaks havoc just a few yards from our custom 435 catamaran SV basik. We regroup and get you caught up with our travels. Come back next week to see us leave Port Angeles in route for Neah Bay...see you then!

Always remember, Captains, Captain, the helms man will eat a share the captain is probably going to lose, for time, is license to get underway, not to mention the funds lost. The BASIK and crew are will I hope! Take a deep breath and start again. I liked the way you jump to action at the scene. If you weren't a sailor before, you are now. Wind to your back, master and crew!

One of the things I always hold dear to me as I grew up skippering boats "slow is good, slow is better", and "when all else failed shutdown the engines". Man what a mess, but by the looks of the boat he has the money and or insurance to take care of that, hope no one was hurt.

Why was the engine even idling while they were taking on fuel? To keep power to the fuel transfer pumps?

I gotta ask throttle can't engage them selves transmissions or gear boxes can't engage themselves . ... the engines and gearbox should have been disengaged and in neutral and idle Shouldn't they . Somebody made the same mistake my grandmother did 40 years ago hit the throttle instead ran my uncles Chris craft into the side of a of a coast guard cutter .

That maybe was ,one of the joys of an electronic throttle control, basic seacraft is engines off after tying up on the fual dock mainly because a lot of them have petrol / gas pumps also. Bet you $1k you will never hear the story if that was a company test captain / the owners captain / or even the owner.

@rjk69 Well, it's just an opinion based on my personal experience. Maybe you've never been in a marine environment and don't know how firmly clothing-discipline is taught there, or maybe you decided that this is an exception and that it's ok to dismiss guidelines for these particular circumstances(?) When it's cold outside, and you venture into a situation where you're bound to get wet, (body, feet, legs, arms etc.) then you are advised to protect your body from losing heat, because if you get wet, you will cool off rapidly, and that will undermine ones ability to manouvre and to react promptly. Which is paramount when you might step onto- or into sinking vessels or help wet individuals. This advice constitutes a priciple that sailors are held to, to such an extent, that they are sent home from a crossing or fishing shift/tour if they don't have their complete proper set of clothing with them. They can lose their position in a team/crew or even lose their job. (Although some ships do carry gear, but not all).

It doesn't cost you anything, but ads will pop up from time to time and they pay us a few pennies. Others will become Patrons to creators like us thru Patreon and pay whatever they like per video as a thank you for putting out videos. The captain was docking her into a slip in a canal. He was standing on the dock and using his cell phone app and his cell phone battery died. The Ferretti just kept going down the canal and into the ocean. The app does not have an auto engine shut off if the cell wifi connection was lost..!!! I jumped on someone's jet ski and got aboard her. Shut the engines down... turned her around and brought her back into the canal.

Three sizes hand drills, large & small angle grinders, jigsaw circular, saws all, osilating, 1”-6” holes saws.....on and on...... I had a freaking Ace hardware!

Once things looked under control, he chose to “gear up” and assist on a longer term basis. At least that’s what it looked like to me. Be well.
