Slightly off the topic (it'll wrap around), but I've found that older people don't care for letter-box, either. My theory is that it too closely resembles an old CRT television screen that is going out and so they reject it for that reason alone. That is, because it had a property which reminded them of imminent appliance failure, they didn't like it and couldn't enjoy it.
Of course, it doesn't help that a movie, at something like 640 lines of resolution, is already pretty lousy, and if it's letterboxed it means you're using even fewer lines to convey the image, making it worse.
(Others, of course, were "purists" who insisted on letterbox, because they saw more of the scene as the director intended. But they were a self-selected elite at that time.)
People are currently used to 24FPS for cinema and just shy of 30FPS for TV. For a long time, in the same demographic as above, the cinema was where you went to watch new movies and TV was where you saw old stuff and cheap sit-coms. So, seeing a movie in 30FPS kicked that part of the brain that recognized "television quality", and the person was suddenly expecting "television quality" in the writing and acting, or at least "freshness", too. (This was back when major movie stars avoided acting in TV because it was a step down.)
In time, people will DEMAND better resolution and faster refresh rates, up to the limits of what their lizard brains can recognize, and quit associating better quality presentation with lower quality programming.

If someone disses a channel for framerate, then fuck - I truly am too old for this world.

People caring about framerate numbers over aesthetics, that annoys me so much my blood stops circulating.

Oh shit, is Linus really of the opinion that the audience should always get what they expect? That's kinda the horror scenario for me, since I hate pandering and predictability in content.

Well I have nothing against giving the audience exactly what it wants and expects, when this kind of thinking applies to these kinds of internet shows, but films and TV for sure don't need more pandering to the average viewer's expectations.

You are assuming people are idiots that dont know how content is supposed to be watched and that they dont know that they cant talk about timing etc in review but they can still comment about the content in it they just watched it faster. You should go about your life assuming people have a brain. Stop trying to curl and dumming down humanity.

How can subscription page stand for 30+% of the views, and YouTube thinks it OK to not show all subs on the sub page? Don't know if this happens anymore, but used to be that yt would just not allow you your subbed creators in your own sub page

Also Ive been unsubbed to you so many times.

I’ve never unsubscribes- yet I go to your channel and I’m not subbed anymore

for black and white episodes, just turn the color settings down to 0.. it will make it black and white...

remember when a customer asked if we carried a black and white copy of i love lucy collection ... she didn't realize that she could do it herself either...

(she just wanted to watch the show how she originally watched it...)

also... youtube has been in sharp decline for me due to all the horrible suggestions i get - most of the time just curuious what is up but the few channels i am actually subscribed to (like 5) rarely pop up in suggested videos but every now and then 1 will get thru

Another problem with YouTube is the way their content, series etc. isn't held to the same standards they hold creators to. If the have foul language it's ok, if you drop the f bomb your content is demonetized immediately. I could make a list of these things, but screw it, the fairies in charge will do it their way anyways.

Don't switch to 60, YouTube as a platform isn't there enough to push it reliably to all players. I already don't watch some channels because I can't play them smoothly. I never got why YT can't do 60fps or HDR right yet I can play a 70GB 4K 10-bit HEVC video at like 25% load in any other player.

I have just upgraded to a 5G router but before that I only had a 9mbps download with five peeps using that connection. From time to time I'd manage to get 720 but I couldn't with Paul's Hardware at 60fps. I much prefer 30 unless the content requires 60, hides imperfections more as well. I think it looks amazing on P Hardware's sit down stuff but I do not think it's worth the extra horsepower. Additionally, to have the "correct" motion blur at 60fps, the shutter would also need to be switched to 1/120 rather than 1/60 so you would need more lighting, which would be difficult in dark conditions and might add more noise from boosting the ISO in dark run and gun stuff. Additionally, it would give less leeway to get rid of any lighting flicker.
I watch videos at 1440p on my 1080p monitor to get a higher bitrate, it reduces compression artefacts in high movement shots dramatically, a higher frame-rate at 1440p would require more power which could affect gaming whilst watching your vids. Additionally, my second PC can play 1440p without dropping frames but not 1440p60fps.

Now, these are all extremely first world problems but a recap is, it might affect a small part of your audience in accessing your videos. I would respect your choice though if you decide to go that way around.

I also want to add as a young camera operator: any tiny bit of weight makes a huge difference, all my mentors have back problems from carrying PMW-500s and its predecessors and they sure wish they could have made use of lighter kit (which wasn't an option) back in the day. A lot of the "old" crews are not able to reach retirement age and have to stop earlier.

And I can not see the difference between 24 and 30. 60 FPS is great for slowmotion, thus the phones start recording that normally and can be problemlessly downsized to 30

And I was wondering "Does Linus ever smoke weed?" And like half a minute after they start reading the superchats and there is a superchat from 'Sander' asking if he smokes weed. I guess this sounds as a minor coincidence, but my name is Sander. lmao

The way I use youtube is: I have a bookmark to the subscription page.
So the tab "Subscriptions" in the sidebar. So I never vsist "Home" or "Trending".
The only time I encounter videos from creators I'm not already subscribed to, is when there are recommended videos from other creators on the right side.
I usually neither subscribe to those creators nor leave a like on the video though.
Those usually just serve as some kind of filler content until somebody else I subscribed to uploads something new.
I also never click the bell. Since I don't have a shit load of creators I'm subscribed to, youtube serves me all the videos anyway.
(and I just hate notifications in general)
And since we're on the honesty-train right now, I have adblock, ghostery and various other plugins of that kind enabled at all times.
So I'm one of probably many people who are not really interested in the advertising game youtube plays.
Even if adblock is disabled, most ads break because of anti tracking plugins anyway.
I let adblock show the ads that are non disruptive though. But again, they usually don't show up because they're just packed with trackers and break.
