Here in Costa Rica cars are extremely expensive. Base price of a Ford 150 is $90,000. 2001-2007 Hyundai Terracans with reasonable mileage can be bought from $5,000 to $10,000. I need 7 seats and 4WD. What do you think? Toyotas are MUCH more expensive.

Scotty: this is my first comment. I had a 2004 Highlander that I bought new several years ago and got 176000 miles but had many, many problems like ac, window regulators, timing belt, struts, transmission $$$$. I will not buy another one again, was very disappointed!😡

All cars are good. Literally. Problem is, people buy them used !! A car is made to be bought when its Brand New with warranty. After warranty is over, car is not that important. Most people are UNABLE TO AFFORD a car, but the system gives them the illusion of the ability to purchase, through credit cards and loans.

I understand when you say that cars from niche/luxury brands are endless money pits but for crying out loud corollas or civics shouldn't be the only option if you want an everyday car! No offense to corolla/civic owners but hell I dont wanna be limited by these two cars as an option for everyday use/driving!

Scotty, I've owned a 1990 Nissan 300 ZX Twin Turbo (owned from 57k miles to about 190k miles), a 2003 Nissan Altima SE 3.5 (owned from about 30k miles to about 160k miles), a 2003 Infiniti G35 (owned from about 45k miles to about 165k miles), and now own both a 2012 Infiniti G37xS (bought with 17k miles, has 139k miles) and a 2012 Nissan Murano SE (bought new, has about 120k miles).

I keep hearing you say they Nissans and Infinities last until about 100k miles and then start to fall apart. I've literally *never* had any major issues with any of these cars. I do my own maintenance, use quality synthetic oils (engine, transmission, differential, transfer case, brake, power steering, etc.).

The biggest repairs I've ever done were on my G35 (well, ither than fun performance upgrades on the Z :) ). I replaced all the suspension components with about 160k miles on it. It was 10 years old at that point, and I'm not a slow driver. So I expect suspension components to need replacing at least by then.

So that's 5 Nissan/Infiniti cars over 21 years (I bought my 300 ZX in 1998). All of the cars I sold had plenty of mileage left in them when I sold them. I plan to keep my current G37 and Murano until least the 200k mark.

It sounds to me like the ones you're seeing aren't taken care of very well if they start to fall apart at 100k miles.

I own a Saab 9-3. Parts aren't any more for that car than any other.
Also Saab didn't go bankrupt. GM bought Saab and they let it go bankrupt.
Saab wasn't the problem. GM was.
They are quirky cars though... As are Volvos.

I recently bought a 04 Lincoln LS V6 with 133k for $900. It had 2 previous owners and came with some maintenance records. However it did have a few issues such as the driver power seat didn't work, front passenger window clips needs replaced, check engine light was showing 2 codes and needed a battery. It's runs fine, transmission shifts smooth and doesn't overheat.
Before I decided to buy, I did some research on the LS and found out these cars are based off of the jaguar xj and s type sedans and I read to stay away from the V8 models.
It's a real nice car for the money, but despite the issues and it being a Ford/Jaguar, should I keep it or fix the issues and get rid of it?
Thank you for all your wise advice!
