  • After fettling my Ebay £4100 Rolls Royce, I thought it deserved a mega trip so back in February '18, we drove it 2000miles from the UK to the Arctic Circle in Norway. Here's what happened..

    Driving on SNOW & ICE, = Lower your Tyre pressures. To enlarge the tyre's Footprint = Extra Grip.
    Look up in the Book / sticker on the car, For the Lowest Safe Pressure.
    I would not be expecting to travel at 60 / 70 mph in those conditions. IN THAT CAR. !!
    No 4 wd. No Abs, auto box etc. & Weight of the car. ( Ok Maybe they do have Abs ? abs was invented in 1965 ) By ROVER. On a Motorbike. )

    I would Run the Tyres at the Lowest pressure allowed Unless you Have been Told Different by Locals / or Tyre Makers. etc. (Say Drop from 30 Psi to 24 psi ? ) Get correct info. I could be wrong ?

              @harrym_vids Dear Harry. First I want to say, that I your Vid's, especiallybthe one, where you take the Silver Shadow to the Arctic Circle. Hurra to the old lady, it did wonderfully.

              Well my question is exacly regarding the engine of this beast, the L10, 6.75 Litre V8.

              Now I Believe, that it would be fair to say, that other british high-end margue's like Jaguar, Rover and Triumph for instance, were nor exactly known for their reliability in general, but what about Rolls Royce? Claiming that they made the best car in the world, at lest until around the 90'ies and 00'es, where BMW took over, my question then is: How reliable was the L-10 engine? Could you compare it's reliablity to for instance an S-Class Mercedes or were there issues with this engine, that for instance a W-120 engine (I believe its called) (V12 in a 600SL), which you yourself said, was one of the best engines of all time? Would you say, that the L-10 would reach your top 10 most reliable engines? Was there done a special effort from Rolls Royce's side, so as not to be put in the same 'box' of unreliable engines, as the ones mentioned above? Did they in other words take extra measures, which other british brands, did not take, to make sure, that this engine was practically bulletproof? I once say a programme, where the tested the L-10 to its max in a secure chamber, as part of this quality process, so of some high quality, it certainly must have been.

              Sincerely Thomas.

                    Surely, if it's colder than expected you would find it didn't have enough choke, if it's set up for a warmer climate? One day I might do that journey myself, although it'll be even further than yours as I'd be starting in Portugal!

                      Great videos. I run all my cars on E85 Super Ethanol and have done so for years. The oldest car that I have is a 2000. The money that I have saved on fuel over the years has paid for the cars and have had no issues.

                            Oh, they had to carry Harry to the ferry,
                            And the ferry carried Harry to the shore;
                            And the reason that they had to carry Harry to the ferry
                            Was that Harry couldn't carry any more.

                                    i'm in the process of buying one of these albeit a bit older but with the same engine. When Rolls Royce tested theses engines they ran it on a test bed at full throttle for 500 hours no american engine got past 100 hours

                                              A very interesting video. Couple of items, why the distributor boot on on the of plug wires is cracked (when Harry adjusted the points) is a very poor idea, this does not keep out the moisture. Second item typical British car with a crappy choke system to start cold (I owned a couple of English cars many years ago and their cold weather design for starting is really poor). But fun to watch - being from Canada am looking forward to when it gets really cold -35 to -40 to see how it goes.

I'm on my second 1967 Shadow and I wish I was in England, where it's probably a lot easier to find a good mechanic who is familiar with them. I have a good mechanic, but it's a little distance. I've experienced similar issues with my car, my points made a backfire once and it was an easy fix. I noticed my speedometer needle not moving on occasion. Right now my wipers don't "park" and I'm getting ready to replace my blower switch. I only paid $5,000 for my car with 54,000 miles and it had brake issues, deferred maintenance, some cosmetic issues, but I love the comfort, the view from the wheel, the "wafting ride", nothing like it, even better than my 1993 RR Spur II. Keep the great videos coming, glad I stumbled on this one!
