Our Red Dead 2 CPU benchmarks were mentioned in this video (with some very interesting results!). Watch those here: lavendercottage.info/user/watch?v=z_ty-gajwoA

We're keeping this video very short and to the point, as the I'm at 40 hours in 2 days thanks to the Red Dead 2 launch. Sorry for the limited editing on this, but we really just wanted to throw together a quick news video while still carrying our other video projects. It's been a busy, rough week with Red Dead 2 and all its many issues! Anyway, here's your brief news update on the specs and pricing, alongside final release dates, for the 3950X, initial 2 Threadripper 3 parts, and the Athlon 3000G. It's looking like November 19 for the Athlon CPU and November 25 for the rest. Our reviews will publish as soon as we're able to get the parts, test them, and get through embargo lift.

Time for the team to get a few hours of sleep and then crack on with our other ongoing coverage!

Each GN item purchased during November will be met with at least 10 trees planted by GN, its distributor, and Eden: store.gamersnexus.net/
We are matching up to $1500 total in viewer donations to Eden Reforestation Projects through November: edenprojects.org/gamersnexus/

You should do a followup story on the Intel/Principled Technology fake benchmarks - it seems Intel didn't need to farm out the lies this time for their server line - https://www.servethehome.com/intel-performance-strategy-team-publishing-intentionally-misleading-benchmarks/

I am actually also very curious about undervolting the 3000G instead of overclocking.

          Athlon 3000G is basically a Ryzen 1, but it's 14nm instead of 12nm like the 3200G

Steve please take a look at the ridiculous upgrade to Windows 10 PRO for Workstations that Microsoft recently released. Cost is $309.00 at Microsoft Store and you have to perform a clean install of Windows 10 Pro then go to the store and put in the key unless you are lucky enough to get it to take the key after reboot into the cleanly installed OS. This is not an upgrade it's a convoluted mess. I left this on the Windows 10 Pro for Workstations support site; " This does not work easily. You have to do a FULL CLEAN install of Windows 10 Pro. Don't put in any key code when it asks, tick the box that says you don't have a code. After you get the CLEAN INSTALL completed you have to go to the store and add the code in. You only get to do this once. You can not "UPGRADE"" a current installation, YOU MUST PERFORM A CLEAN INSTALL. This is typical MICROSOFT INABILITY TO GET EVEN THE SIMPLEST THINGS CORRECT. DON'T BOTHER CALLING SUPPORT THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW THIS IS AN OPERATING SYSTEM. I WAS TRANSFERRED 5 TIMES AND THEN HUNG UP ON DURING THREE ATTEMPTS, AND OFF COARSE THE LANGUAGE BARRIER IS ANOTHER MATTER. MICROSOFT SUCKS! SUPPORT SUCKS! SIMPLE UPGRADE SUCKS! BOTTOM LINE THE FIRST THING SUPPORT DOES IS LIE TO YOU. YOU ARE SPEAKING WITH SOMEONE WHO IS CLEARLY IN INDIA AND HIS NAME IS KEVIN, THIS IS HOW MICROSOFT STARTS OFF A SUPPORT CALL BY LYING TO YOU.
ANTI-TRUST. ANTI-TRUST, ANTI-TRUST. Microsoft based Server pricing on the number of cores on your servers Xeon processor saying you were getting more out of the OS so you should have to pay more, then SPECTER/MELTDOWN HIT. ALL MANUFACTURERS PUBLISHED PROCESSOR PERFORMANCE LOSS DATA AFTER SPECTER/MELTDOWN PATCHES WERE APPLIED SOME PUBLISHED UP TO A 33% LOSS IN PROCESSOR PERFORMANCE, THIS IS WELL KNOWN ACROSS THE INDUSTRY, MICROSOFT BURIED IT. MICROSOFT ARE NOT ACTIVELY REFUNDING SERVER LICENSE USERS BASED ON THE PROCESSOR LOSS OF PERFORMANCE BECAUSE OF SPECTER/MELTDOWN PATCHES, NO THEY ARE LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK. THEY BASED LICENSING COST ON PERFORMANCE ON THEIR OWN THIS WAS NOT AN INTEL DECISION IT WAS A MICROSOFT DECISION, THE PERFORMANCE IS REDUCED, WHY HASN'T SERVER PER CORE LICENSING COST BEEN REDUCED? ANTI-TRUST, ANTI-TRUST, ANTI-TRUST."

You could really easily test what the CPU heat power is using a water cooler with no radiator (just water cool and use a picnic cooler as a reservoir)... watts are the energy needed to heat a gram of water by a degree c. It would be interesting to see just how far off AMD and Intel are.

If their chip is so good why the hell is there an embargo on this? I was thinking about this the last few weeks. The CPU is meant to be released so soon and yet there is no news on this in the slightest except the same dumb screenshot released by them. What the hell is going on? Just smells of scam.

In 2019 how is Quad Core not “budget” ? I don’t understand why they would make a 2 core CPU. I guess it could run LibreOffice and Solitaire.

I do real work on my PCs too, but I don’t want to be waiting 30 seconds for office or chrome to open. Even a non-gaming PC should have a SATA SSD and 16GB of RAM. Speed of the RAM doesn’t matter much.

                                            do we know of 3000G is actually 12nm Zen+? AMD"s website says its 14nm: < https://www.amd.com/en/products/apu/amd-athlon-3000g >
for reference, here's the 3400G, which you will see says 12nmm FinFet: < https://www.amd.com/en/products/apu/amd-ryzen-5-3400g >
I realize for $49 you can't have it all, but i'd still love for people on a budget to be able to get zen+ if possible.

While the 200GE (stock 3.2 GHz) overclocking to 3.9 GHz is impressive, what's also impressive is that the Ryzen 5 1400 4c/8t processor (stock 3.2 GHz Boost 3.4 GHz) , at least my two samples, would easily overclock to 4.0 and 4.2 GHz, all cores, 24/7, with nothing more than a 212Evo air cooler at under 1.4v.

Actually, it seems like all Ryzen 1st gen overclock like mad... (25% single core gains and 33% all core gains are not atypical). I did get upset when I couldn't hit 4.3GHz all core on my Ryzen 7 1700 earlier (probably not enough voltage), but it was running 4.2 GHz stable on a 212Evo at 1.400v (CPU-z 477/5211) vs (Stock CPU-z 379/3903). It was thumping the Ryzen 7 2700x (CPU-z 466/4857); it even beat the i9-9900K multi-threaded (CPU-z 543/5136). (Proof - //valid.x86.fr/bench/409j3h) - I wish Ryzen 3xxx series would overclock like this!!!

Is it just me, or have the 3 tech companies AMD, Intel and Nvidia seem have drawn a line in the sand regarding price to performance of their parts?
                                                            Let me explain:
In the CPU space both AMD and Intel have set their base models at quad core, both offer similar performance and cost about the same(ish).
Previously when a new product line was launched you would get increases in performance for the same price as the previous generation sold for. Now they seem to have a baseline, and if you want more cores or higher clocks you have to pay through the nose for it. Their base models in their new ranges only basically match the previous generations, and if you want more performance you have to pay more.
For reference I have observed the cost of i5 CPU's nearly double over a 6 year period, with the increase being 6 cores instead of 4(forced by Ryzen core counts).
AMD broke that mould by offering more cores than Intel when Intel was gouging their customers for quad core i7's, but that seems to be over now.
I bring this up in light of the expected MSRP of the new Threadripper lines, going for way more than the 2nd generation parts did - offering more cores, but costing way more, and the upcoming 3950X AM4 part has been slotted in where the 2950X was positioned last gen.
It's like AMD has said "we will be charging $50 per core, so more cores means much higher prices"
If they follow this logic through with the expected 64 core Threadripper it will cost well over $3000, a price that would even make Intel blush!
I am seeing the same thing with the GPU side as well, where they give you a crap base model that sometimes gets beaten by last gen parts, and they then charge you "per CUDA core" for any increase to performance. This has the effect of making the mid range price bracket jump from $250 to $400, and the high end costs well over $1000, where it once cost around $800-$1000 max for the top range GPU.
I am a budget builder, and I am seeing the cost of the parts I would use to put a build together go through the roof, for little to no performance gain over the last generation parts. I surf the used part markets now for good value(bit of a minefield though), as new parts no longer offer decent price to performance uplifts, like there used to be.

add on to the fact that amd is screwing over x399 users who paid them more money than mainstream parts, to then switch and do an intel on us after just one iteration of good value products, i do not feel like giving amd my money again. and yes, i've also been observing that prices keep going up in tandem with performance, whereas previous times you would have an jump in performance per core/per dollar with each true generation. people saying 'just buy threadripper 2000' piss me off the most, if tr3 prices were say starting from 1100-1200 for the 24core and 1500-1600 for 32c, and the motherboards were 300-500, it wouldve made switching platforms much more bearable. but as it stands, if the leaks are to be believed, it now costs upwards of 2000 to even START in threadripper. what happened to bringing good value each generation, amd? you can still make money hand over fist on this, just maybe not intel levels of margins but sure.

All x399 needed to shine instead of being mediocre, is the 30% single core uplift zen2 would bring.

I don't get why they treat am4 customers so well but Tr4 are second class citizens.

I paid so much, and this will have dropped prices so far, it's not even worth me selling to change to a 3950x

Where if I'd saved money 12-18 months ago and got an AM4 board, i'd have what I should be able to buy now - 3950x. I just want a 3955x, drop in Tr4 16 core zen2 :'(
