Oh geez, these things are a nightmare. I should know, I have one. I would have just did a rebuild kit on the whole turbo if it was out of the truck.

Definitely do a wicked wheel when you change the compressor wheel. It’s basically a quicker spool up and maybe like 5psi more.

Congratulations on your factory fresh lemon.
I worked in auto parts from 98 - 08 and we sold a lot of conversions for the 7.3. The engine is solid but everything around it is a mess.
The big things have probably been converted but just so you are aware.
If it's manual, The flywheel comes in a single and a dual-mass. the factory dual-mass is hot garbage.
Single mass might require a clutch conversion. the clutches are also failure-prone.
Factory starter is also failure-prone there are tougher aftermarket conversions.
              The factory filters are horrid.
Air - get the FA1759 (Oval filter box) or equivalent, you can probably snag one from a salvage yard. Assuming you are not putting a cold air intake on it. The reusable oiled filters(K&N) are fine diesel don't mind a little extra oil in the fuel/air mixture.
Oil - the factory filter is too long, if the engine mounts get soft it won't clear the frame. WIX makes a nice shorter filter, look for the XD part number.
Fuel - There are Cap and Cartridge conversion kits. You can get a nice shiny iFJF F81Z9G270BA aluminum cap which will work with the FD-4596 style cartridge. Get the cartridges with the extra mesh shield on the outside, they take out smaller particulates and reduce gumming of the fuel system.
You might also want to go with Dual Remote Bypass System, it replaces the bowl with a fitting block and couples a water separator with the fuel filter.
I had a water separator on my 4.3v6 Montecarlo. The fuel systems seem to really like them, something about condensate getting into pump gas because of the large underground tanks.
Might want to get ahold of Joe over at TopTrucks https://www.toptrucks4x4.com/ I would wager they would have some interesting ideas about what you can do with it.

Oops, forgot about the big one. Check the compression every 100k miles. There is a super rare compression issue that the ECU will mask by playing with the fuel/air mixture and the timing. It's a stealth issue you will never know its happening if you don't check the compression.
That turbo damage was probably from sand getting past that factory filter if it's been in Florida the whole time. A fair bit o sand can blow clean through the engine at dusty job sites if the filter isn't properly sealing.

Mine will run up through 35PSI with the WWII and stock tubo housing. I have the manual waste gate actuator also. The stock one starts to open the waste gate at about 12 PSI. Once you get past 24PSI you'll need a boost fooler or a better chip like a Hydra or you'll get an overboost code and an SES light. Cool truck though. Long life the 7.3!

The people who trash the 6.7 are th old people who baby the trucks, and gather crazy carbon buildup. For you, the 6.7 is a dream! Mine has 400k!

Electronics like lights usually work at around 60Hz, so make you to record away from 60Fps, and it will not flicker. And don't do stuff that goes into 60, like 30, because it will derp there too.
